I am taking an online course this semester to try to keep up my certification. One of the downsides of this online class and teaching an art class again and being pregnant is very vivid bad teacher dreams. The kind where you are teaching a (huge) class of high schoolers and no one is listening and everyone walks out at the end of class and you end up very humbled in front of your student teacher. This is why I am up at 5:30am blogging (when I should be working on my online class...)
Art Project #3: Your Dream House
We looked at and discussed ancient Greek art and architecture, especially the Parthenon.
We practiced drawing buildings using one-point perspective...
Mixed in a little Frank Lloyd-Wright and Falling Water...
Finally, the students designed their dream home. They could choose to use one-point perspective if they liked and there were no limits on the house.
They drew out their houses and covered their lines with black sharpie to make bold lines. We then added texture and patterns into the large shapes with crayon.
Finally, the kids painted their houses using watercolor. The crayon resists the watercolor and the patterns pop creating interest in flat areas.
We also added salt to the wet paint to make textures in the paint.

I loved the bright colors and imaginative ideas of these pieces. It was also a fun introduction to painting and more practice with line.
